California’s Department of Water Resources (DWR) has posted some update videos on the Lake Oroville Spillway repair progress.
The aging Oroville Dam, the tallest dam in the US (at 770 ft.) was damaged in February when California experienced record rain. There was fear that a collapse could result in extensive and disastrous flooding.
The project’s contractor, Kiewit Infrastructure West, adjusted its 10-hour work shifts in June to accommodate a different environmental challenge – heat. Shifts now start at 5 a.m. with an evening shift starting at 8 p.m., to avoid work during the hottest part of the day.
