C.W. Driver starts work on new Cadence Park School in Irving

The Irvine Unified School District (IUSD) recently broke ground on Cadence Park School, which will serve students from developing neighborhoods around the Orange County Great Park.

C.W. Driver is the construction manager for the project designed by PJHM.

Scheduled to open in August 2018, Cadence Park will be the district’s 40th school and fourth K-8 school.

The 94,000 sq. ft. Art Deco-inspired campus on 13 acres will include:

• An innovation lab that includes a makers space and a video production room. The lab will be equipped with sinks and a roll up door to create a flexible learning space;
• a library with a story-telling space, which will double as a small group work area.
• all classrooms in grades 1-5 will have a direct connection to the interior student collaboration spaces;
• the 6-8 quad will include an outdoor amphitheater, covered small group instruction areas, space for outdoor science activities and a garden;
• outdoor collaboration spaces throughout the campus for all grade levels; and
• a gymnasium with a fitness lab.

Irvine Unified, serving more than 33,000 students in one of the fastest growing cities in California, has begun constructing and opening new schools since 2013.
