City approves $4.9M grant for affordable LGBT housing at Anita May Rosenstein Campus

Construction on Los Angeles LGBT Center’s new Anita May Rosenstein Campus is expected to stay on track after city council approved a $4.9 million grant for the project.

According to an announcement made by council member David Ryu, these funds will be allocated for 100 units of affordable housing for LGBT seniors. These units are a key feature of the complex, which also includes administrative offices, supportive housing for youth and 100 shelter beds for young people struggling with homelessness.

On top of such grant, the campus, located at 1116 North McCadden Place, will also receive $8.75 million in financing through the Measure HHH ballot initiative that was approved by voters in 2016.

The new Los Angeles LGBT Center will replace the organization’s current headquarters on Schrader Blvd. which will be converted into a health services facility for the community. The proposed medical facility will offer medical care, mental health care, addiction recovery services, HIV/STD testing and treatment, and more.

With enough financing closed for construction of the project, its completion is expected in 2019 during the center’s 50th anniversary. Serving as project designer is Leong Leong while Killefer Flammang is its executive architect.

As stated in the Los Angeles LGBT Center’s official website, the campus has the following goals: safety, healing and hope for LGBT youth; caring, support and service for LGBT seniors; and health, happiness and wellness for LGBT people.
