Atlas Hospitality reports there 75 hotels with 12,237 rooms are under construction in southern California.
Last year 39 hotels opened in the five counties, bringing 7,331 more rooms — an increase from 22 new properties with 3,955 rooms in 2016, the Daily Breeze reports.
In other words, there are more hotels currently under construction than all that opened in the past two years across the region.
Here is the under-construction data by county:
Los Angeles County: 32 hotels with 5,327 rooms.
San Diego County: 16 hotels with 2,823 rooms.
Orange County: Eight hotels with 1,657 rooms.
Riverside County: 13 hotels with 1,909 rooms.
San Bernardino County: Six hotels with 611 rooms.
“Despite the increase in new supply, we see sustained growth for the foreseeable future,” Atlas wrote. “This is due to the strong levels of occupancy and profit margins, combined with an extremely positive economic outlook – stock market and home value growth.”
