SpaceX plans new Los Angeles facility

Space Exploration Technologies Corp., which is doing business as SpaceX, a private aerospace manufacturer and space transportation services company founded by entrepreneur Elon Musk in 2002, plans to build a Los Angeles factory.

The company has received the necessary approval from the city’s Board of Harbor Commissioners for the new rocket manufacturing facility to be built mostly on artificial island of the port.

SpaceX is looking to build the facility on 19 acres of port land to manufacture a massive Mars rocket. The permit approved has an initial 10-year term with two 10-year options to extend, according to Journal of Commerce.

The deal will now be reviewed by the city council.
