First Community to build 319-unit residential tower near Google village

First Community Housing plans to construct a 319-unit residential tower of hundreds of affordable apartments near Google’s proposed transit village in downtown San Jose, The Mercury News reported.

The tower would rise 13 stories above the development site at the northeast corner of McEvoy and West San Carlos streets, according to the report.

The building would have 132 studios, 78 one-bedroom units, 76 two-bedroom apartments and 33 three-bedroom units, according to preliminary proposals submitted by project designer Campbell-based Anderson Architects.

The project’s developers believe the apartment tower will benefit from its proximity to Diridon Station and Google’s proposed village of 6 million to 8 million sq. ft. of offices, housing, retail, restaurants, open spaces and other amenities.
