LA council provides $103 million with go-ahead for 1,153-room hotel complex near convention centre

Los Angeles politicians have given the go-ahead to construction a 1,153-room hotel complex next to to the Los Angeles Convention Centre, financed with public and private funds.

The Los Angeles Times reports that the “Fig and Pico” project would include two towers — 38 and 27 stories respectively — housing three hotels.

The city will provide $103 million in public assistance to the project.

The site in the South Park neighbourhood adjacent to the LA light rail system’s Pico station.

“The hotels will have ground floor retail fronting on S. Figueroa, W. Pico and Flower Street, a sky lobby, three pools, bars, restaurants, lounges and event space, all supporting the hotel guests and outside visitors,” the Lightstone Real Estate Group says in a statement.

“The hotels will also be supported by a six-story parking facility located at the base of the hotels for guest and event parking,” the developer says. Gensler is the architect.

City Council also recently approved a separate project to build an 850-room hotel near the convention facility. The city has a goal to have 8,000 guest rooms within walking distance o of the convention center.
