High speed rail project creates thousands of construction jobs

California’s high-speed railway project has created 2,000 construction jobs since 2015.

The California High-Speed Rail Authority (CHSRA) said there are now 119 miles under construction consisting of three construction packages with more than 20 construction sites that are currently active with others earmarked to open soon. That equals more than $3 billion committed to construction, Global Railway Review reports.

“This project milestone represents significant progress on the nation’s first high-speed rail system,” said Joe Hedges, project chief operating officer. “The workers we are recognizing today are the ones that are going out every day to work on more than 24 active construction sites in the Central Valley.

“Once we expand out from the Valley to the north and the south, there are going to be hundreds of major structures that will need to be built, creating thousands of jobs and new opportunities.”
