Affirmed Housing proposes low-income apartment building in San Diego

Affirmed Housing Group wants to build a low-income apartment building in downtown San Diego.

The plan for a seven-story building with 78 units and seven parking spaces was approved by the design committee of Civic San Diego, downtown’s planning agency. The project now goes before the full Civic board for a final OK, reports The San Diego Union-Tribune.

The development, which is named Front & Beech for intersecting streets at the site in Cortez, takes advantage of bonuses allotted for subsidized housing to limit parking. Plans call for 76 studios with an average size of 321 sq. ft., according to the report.

Affirmed Housing plans to offer 57 of the units for veterans who recently experienced homelessness as permanent supportive housing. Civic San Diego estimates the project will create roughly 81 construction jobs and two permanent jobs.

Affirmed Housing expects to break ground on the project is December 2020.
