Slender hotel with tiny rooms planned for San Francisco

Handel Architects has designed a slender, 25-story San Francisco hotel for J Street Hospitality with tiny 180 sq. ft. rooms.

“The first six floors and building’s lit top incorporates varying inward and outward stepped blocks, breaking down the mass while imparting shade and shadow effects, with lighting accents,” says the hotel’s planning team, via Socket Site. “Further articulation via integral variations of perforated and textured cladding and glazing further refines the scale providing a distinctive form and expression.”

The hotel at 36 Tehama.has several hurdles to cross before construction starts and, according to Curbed San Fransisco, will compete with other new lodgings in the area, including the recently opened Virgin Hotel in SoMa and the Waldorf Astoria currently under construction at 512 Mission.
