A mammoth concrete pour in late June marked a milestone for the construction of a 39-story residential tower at The Grand Los Angeles’s Bunker Hill neighbourhood.
The pour took 15 hours, requiring about 140 workers and 1,348 trucks, according to co-developer Related Urban, the mixed-use division of the Related Companies.
“The mat foundation pour is an incredibly important construction milestone as it marks the beginning of the vertical construction,” Rick Vogel, project lead and senior vice-president at Related Urban, told Curbed LA.
The Grand will occupy a full block just east of the Walt Disney Concert Hall. (Both structures were designed by Frank Gehry. The overall block-sized development will also include 176,000 sq. ft. of shops and restaurant space, a movie theater complex, an Equinox Hotel, and a public plaza with landscaped terraces.
Core USA, a joint venture of China Harbour Engineering Company and CCCG Overseas Real Estate, is sharing the development with The Related Group.
The Grand is part of a larger development known as the Grand Avenue project. It includes Grand Park and the The Emerson apartment tower, which debuted in 2014, Curbed LA reported.
