Water park under renovation

Boomerang Shores, a Santa Clara-based wate rpark operated by the company California’s Great America is getting a new name and a major facelift.

Set to reopen in 2020 under the name South Bay Shores, the amusement park, which is currently under construction, will have a footprint that’s 50 percent larger (15 acres instead of the current 10.5 acres), 18 attractions instead of 10, and three dining options instead of one.

Renovations will also see the creation of a new entrance, new family changing/showering areas, more lounge chairs, additional shade and lush landscaping with native plants.

The water park’s existing slides and attractions will receive makeovers as well, and will receive new names highlighting coastal theming of South Bay Shores. Some of these will include:

• Shark Reef Plunge featuring four six-story-tall body slides that will simultaneously send four guests (each in a separate enclosed launch chamber) on a nearly vertical free fall when the floor drops out from under them.

• Feeding Frenzy & The Barracuda featuring two five-story tube slides winding through an enclosed tunnel

• Tide Pool, which is a new family lagoon with eight kid-sized water slides that line the perimeter of a zero-depth-entry pool

• Barefoot Beach, a new sand play and beach area
