The City of Chico was awarded a $22 million grant to improve infrastructure through the California Department of Housing and Community Development.
The city is planning a project that would expand Bruce Rd. in southeast Chico from two lanes to four between Skyway and State Route 32, reports Krcrtv.
In addition to road expansion, the project also includes the development of 1,305 single-family homes including a minimum of 260 affordable housing units within the Meriam Park community that is alongside Bruce Rd. It also includes the construction of a bike lane and a new bridge over Little Chico Creek.
The road expansion project is expected to take two to three years to complete.
