Linc Housing, National CORE begin work on 91-unit apartment community in San Pedro

Linc Housing and National CORE, both nonprofit developers of affordable and supportive housing, have partnered to build 456 West, a 91-unit apartment community in San Pedro for families and individuals earning between 30 and 80 percent of the area median income.

In addition to new housing, the ground floor will house a health clinic in partnership with Harbor Community Health Centers, providing primary care, behavioral health, and pharmacy services.

RRM Design Group designed 456 West and National CORE is the general contractor. The development is due to be completed in early 2023.

The newest community is the third property developed jointly by the Linc Housing and National CORE team, with more in the pipeline. In addition to 456 West, the two nonprofits have an aggregate of 1,216 affordable and supportive homes in construction.

The new six-story building, located at 456 West 9th St. in San Pedro, will have five studio, 27 one-bedroom, 35 two-bedroom, and 23 three-bedroom apartments, as well as one two-bedroom manager’s unit. The building will also have a community room with computer and kitchen areas, a gym, and bike storage. Outdoor community spaces will include play areas, picnic terrace, and community lawn. 456 West will be an electric-only building, resulting in lower carbon emissions, lower air pollution, and increased resiliency.

The Hope through Housing Foundation will provide onsite social services to help elevate the health, well-being, and self-sufficiency of residents. A professional service coordinator, in conjunction with local community partners, will arrange an array of programs addressing resident health, parenting skills, employment, money management, exercise and nutrition, and youth development.
