California construction icon C.C. Myers dies at 85

Sacramento-based construction icon C.C. Myers died last Wednesday. He was 85.

Myers started a construction firm in 1973 and gained fame for completing huge projects, most notably repairing the Santa Monica Freeway after the 1994 Northridge Earthquake in 66 days — 74 ahead of schedule.

Other major projects completed under his watch include the retrofit of the Bay Bridge, the 2007 reconstruction of the MacArthur Maze near Oakland after it had been badly damaged by an explosion and completing repairs to Interstate 5 in downtown Sacramento ahead of schedule.

His death was announced on the Myers & Son Construction social media accounts.

“He was 85 years old and lived his whole life to the fullest, from a farmer’s son with a 10th-grade education to a leader in the construction industry, he did it all,” the post read. “He truly was the man, the myth, the legend in the construction industry.

“We appreciate the time he was here with all of us and the way he touched and influenced our lives.”
