The City of Malibu has launched phase two of an extensive outreach and engagement program to gather feedback regarding the future use of five community lands.
An in-person pop up event is scheduled for Thurs., Aug. 15 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Malibu High/Middle School, 30215 Morning View Dr.
In 2016 and 2018, the city purchased five vacant parcels of land totaling more than 61 acres to develop as community spaces.
To ensure the future of these community lands aligns with the community’s priorities, the city launched an outreach and engagement program to collect feedback.
In Phase 1 of the outreach process, general community feedback was invited on the types of uses the community envisions and prefers for the future of these lands.
Staff hosted multiple in-person meetings and pop-up events, gathered input via email and website forms and conducted a community survey via FlashVote.
As part of Phase 2, the city will ask which category of uses participants prefer for each of the lands from August through September.City Council will review the outcome of the outreach and engagement program in October.
Based on current input, the most popular needs were identified:
- Commercial use (parking, business development)
- Community center (senior center, youth center, library, visitor center)
- Community pool/splash pad
- Grass sports fields (soccer, football, baseball, softball)
- Housing (workforce and senior)
- Indoor theatre/arts center
- Open space (pathways and trails, community garden)
- Outdoor amphitheater
- Sports courts (basketball, pickleball, tennis, bocci)
- Other (dog park, skate park, bike trails, bike parks)
