A 25-year lease has been authorized by the City of San Francisco for Bay FC’s, allowing construction of a new “state-of-the-art” training facility on Treasure Island. The groundbreaking ceremony for the complex is slated for 2025, with plans to open in time for the team’s 2027 season.

Bay FC plans to break ground in 2025 and construction will be completed in time for the  2027 season.

“As Mayor of the best city in the world, I am so proud of San Francisco for being a part of history in the making by elevating women’s professional sports and building a stronger San Francisco,” said Mayor London Breed. “I want to thank Bay FC CEO Brady Stewart, women’s soccer champion Brandi Chastain and her co-founders, the players and staff, and our City departments, who have worked together tirelessly to turn a vision into reality.”

Built and created specifically for women athletes, Bay FC’s world-class training facility will be one of a few purpose-built training facilities for women’s sports in the United States and home to Bay FC’s players, coaches, and football operations staff.

The facility will feature three training fields, dedicated sporting operations facilities, and top-of-the line resources and spaces for players needed to perform at the highest level.

Bay FC’s facility will be designed to complement the existing and planned youth recreational facilities on the island and further enhance it as a youth sports destination for soccer clinics, additional community activities, and more for the entire Bay Area.

“With the approval of our proposed lease, we are able to take the next step towards our vision of becoming a global sports franchise with having our own world-class training facility specifically created for our incredible athletes, and have it located in an iconic location in the center of the Bay,” said Bay FC CEO Brady Stewart. “We are looking forward to breaking ground in 2025 and continuing to be a catalyst for innovation and change for the Bay Area.”

The training facility will be privately financed and expand and accelerate Treasure Island’s development and the sports programming already planned for further redevelopment of the island. The initial plans include three core training fields and sporting facilities on eight and a half acres of the 40 acres already earmarked for sports use. The remaining land earmarked for sports use will continue to be utilized by those already using it for youth sports.

The Board of Supervisors approval comes after the lease was approved by the Treasure Island Development Authority Board of Directors on Nov. 13, the San Francisco Board of Directors Budget and Finance Committee on Dec. 4, and unanimous approval at the San Francsico Board of Directors meeting on Dec. 10.
