Granite Construction has been selected as the Construction Manager/General Contractor (CM/GC) for a key airfield infrastructure project at San Francisco International Airport (SFO), the company announced Monday.
The Runway 1R-19L Rehabilitation and Taxiway W Construction Project is part of SFO’s multi-billion-dollar Capital Improvement Program aimed at modernizing the airport’s runways, taxiways, and terminals.
Preconstruction started in June and will continue through January 2026, with major construction expected to run from March through November 2026.
The $115 million project includes full rehabilitation of Runway 1R-19L and the construction of a new Taxiway W connecting Taxiways A and L. It will include upgrades to hot mix asphalt pavement, lighting infrastructure, drainage, signage, Runway Status Lights, sectionals, grooving, and striping. The existing Taxiway F1 will be demolished.
“We are committed to building a lasting collaboration with SFO and all stakeholders to deliver this critical infrastructure efficiently and effectively, while minimizing disruptions for both employees and SFO passengers,” said Brent Fogg, Granite’s vice president of regional operations. “We are honored to partner with the exceptional SFO team to enhance the airfield and uphold SFO’s reputation as the Best Airport in North America.”
Granite will supply approximately 185,000 tons of asphalt (P401 and P403 mix) from its Santa Clara Asphalt facility.
