The Riverside County Board of Supervisors has increased a $10.2 million budget increase to build the John J. Benoit Detention Center in Indio.

Originally, the project budget was $330.35 million, which is moved up to $340.6 million, according to a report from Patch.com.

The new 516,000-sq. ft. detention center will include more than 1,600 beds and replace a 353-bed facility at the same site. It will have a 72-bed unit for inmates who need medical attention and a first-of-its-kind clinic for health examinations.

San Bernardino-based Vanir Construction Management is developing the new jail, which is expected to be completed in May 2019.
