Turner Construction Co. has been selected for the San Diego Unified School District’s Whole site modernization project at Mann Middle School, continuing the firm’s long-standing partnership with the district and its commitment to enhancing educational environments in the region.

Construction is scheduled to begin in early 2026 and is expected to be completed by early 2029.

The project will be delivered in phases and includes significant improvements to the Mann Middle School campus. Designed by Sprotte+Watson Architecture and Planning, the modernization includes renovations to Buildings 300, 400 and the 500 Building, which houses the auditorium. Part of Building 200 will be demolished, while the existing library will be preserved. A new addition will be built to house updated restrooms and support areas.

Plans also call for the demolition of the existing physical education building and construction of a new PE locker facility and gymnasium. The upgraded PE complex will include accessible parking and improved access from Trojan Avenue.

Additional modernization work will improve general and special education classrooms, the auditorium and food service facilities. The project includes upgrades to campus accessibility, technology and communications infrastructure, as well as broader site enhancements to support learning and functionality.

“We are honored to be entrusted once again by the San Diego Unified School District,” said Fernando Delgado, K-14 program manager at Turner. “Our team is excited to deliver a project that will have a lasting impact on students and the surrounding community. This effort exemplifies our commitment to building environments where learning can thrive.”
