Construction on the largest apartment building in Sacramento’s midtown in years is expected to begin as early as next month, The Sacramento Bee reports. The project is close to the newspaper’s home.
Work on The Press, a 253-unit apartment building at 21st and Q streets, “is scheduled to start in late July/early August,” according to an email sent to Sacramento Bee employees from the company’s human resources department.
The apartment building will be constructed on the site of the The Bee’s parking garage, and the company email alerted Bee employees about plans to close the garage during the initial construction phase, the newspaper reported.
“The first stage (of construction) will last from four to five months and will involve reinforcing the lower level of the garage,” the email reads.
A development group led by Sotiris Kolokotronis purchased the garage in December 2016 for $5.7 million and is developing The Press.
The Press is one of several significant developments under way in midtown. More than 600 housing units, a new park and restaurants are under construction within three blocks of 19th and Q streets.
