The California Water Commission has approved $2.5 billion for construction of new dams and underground storage projects.
In November 2014, California voters passed Proposition 1, a $7.5 billion water bond that will make needed investments in the state’s water management systems.
The bond dedicated $2.7 billion for investments in water storage projects. The water commission will be responsible for appropriately allocating the funds.
The commission, through the Water Storage Investment Program, will fund the public benefits of the projects. Eligible projects must also provide measurable benefits to the Delta ecosystem or its tributaries.
