MiraCosta Community College District begins $500M improvement project

The MiraCosta Community College District has broken ground on a $500-million project to upgrade classrooms, add parking spaces and construct new buildings, and other projects on both its Oceanside and San Elijo campus, NBC San Diego reports.

The improvements are being made under Measure MM which was approved by district voters in November 2016.

Under the plan, district officials plan to upgrade to the Veterans Center to enhance facilities and services; upgrades to career training facilities for science, health care, technology and skilled trades; modernize instructional technology for improved student learning in core subjects like math, science and technology; improve access for students with disabilities; repair or replace leaky roofs, worn-out floors and restrooms, old rusty plumbing and faulty electrical systems; and update science centers and labs to allow for state-of-the-art courses in biology, chemistry and physical sciences.

Both projects are scheduled for completion by mid-August.
