The final construction phase is complete and patients are being moved in to an expanded emergency area and a new children’s unit at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.

The Santa Ynez Valley Star said the project, which added about 134,000 square feet to the hospital, two new pavilions, and elevated the comfort, technology and privacy in an emergency department  serving more than 46,000 patients last year.

The hospital is now about 713,000 square feet with 337 beds. The remodel includes 24 private emergency department rooms, and a new computed tomography (CT) scanner and X-ray unit have been added to save patient transport time.
