Construction could start by year’s end on 17 Central, a $35 million mid-rise apartment and retail structure in midtown Sacramento.

The existing building at 1631 K St. could be demolished this summer. D&S Development co-ordinator Sara Labastchi says the 8.5 story structure should be completed by 2022.

Demolition of the existing building on the 1631 K St. site could start this summer.

“We are looking to begin site demo and initial site prep work this summer, with the hopes to be permit ready for construction at the end of this year,” she said in an email to the Sacramento Business Journal.

17 Central would have 111 apartments above 1,608 sq. ft.of ground-floor retail space.

Architects De Bartolo & Rimanic Design Studio based in San Diego designed the project, but a general contractor hasn’t been announced. The existing 12,500 sq. ft. structure, formerly occupied by the Sacramento Ballet, has been empty since 2016. D&S purchased the site in April, 2018 for $1.5 million.
