A new express lane is being built to help relieve congestion along Highway 101.
The Daily Journal reports that carpool lanes between Whipple Avenue and the Santa Clara County line are being converted to express lanes, while work is also scheduled to begin in January to widen a stretch between Whipple Avenue and Interstate 380.
The Journal also says that San Mateo County is getting closer to approving a tolling system that will charge drivers who travel along the highway between the hours of 5:00 AM and 8:00 PM. It is expected to charge drivers a flex-rate pricing scheme, based on traffic volume.
Costs for the express lane project are expected to be $514 million
