Downtown planning agency Civic San Diego has approved a 12-story hotel proposed by J Street Hospitality in the heart of downtown the city’s booming East Village.

The 132-room project, will be constructed at 923 Island Ave., the San Diego Union-Tribune reports and will operate under the Hampton by Hilton banner.

The 55,200-sq.-ft. building will include a 2,500-sq.-ft. roof deck restaurant and bar but it will not offer any on-site parking. It will replace an older two-story, four-unit apartment building on the site.

Construction is expected to start in the spring of 2020, with completion near the end of 2021. The project would create 108 construction jobs and 65 permanent jobs.
