Route 11 highway project enters final stage

The stretch of highway that will eventually connect the future Otay Mesa East Port of Entry with the highway system surrounding San Diego is one step closer to completion.

According to The Los Angeles Times San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) and Caltrans and broke ground on the portion of SR-11 that would link state Routes 905 and 125 to the new crossing.The highway construction is expected to be completed by 2021—the same time construction of the port will begin. It is scheduled to be finished by 2023.

The paper reports that the highway portion of the project is estimated to cost $100-million which will cover the creation of a four-lane toll road connecting to the site of the future U.S. Customs and Border Protection crossing and a California Highway Patrol commercial vehicle enforcement facility. A total of $800-million project has been earmarked for the whole project, including the new port of entry.
