Construction spending on transportation projects increases by 7.9%

National construction spending on transportation projects for March 2019 was $53.35 billion (seasonally adjusted annual rate), a 7.9% increase from the same period a year earlier, according to a U.S. Census Bureau report.

For March 2018, the number was $49.45 billion.

The total includes construction of new structures as well as improvements to existing structures in both the private and public sectors. However, it does not include maintenance and repairs to existing structures.
