$4 billion Vegas-to-LA rail project to begin construction next year

Virgin Trains USA will begin construction of a $4 billion rail link between California and Las Vegas in 2020, Global Construction Review reports, citing the company’s officials.

Bob O’Malley, the company’s vice-president, told delegates to the Nevada Economic Development Conference that design work had been completed on 30% of the project.

The line between the Las Vega strip and Victorville, on the northeast outskirts of Los Angeles, would use the Virgin Trains’ Florida project as a model.

The $4-billion project, operates a 112km line between West Palm Beach and Miami, and work is under way to extend it to Orlando.

The company is hoping to complete the project by 2023.
