The City of Oceanside is ready to begin construction of the El Corazon Aquatics Center.
The City Council approved awarding a construction contract of $19.9 million to PCL Construction to build the aquatics center, The Coast News reports.
The aquatics center will provide competition-level amenities to serve locals, school districts and host regional meets. It will feature a 56-meter competition pool, diving boards, instructional pool, splash pad, administrative offices, meeting rooms, large multi-purpose hall, locker rooms and outdoor recreational and viewing areas.
The project is estimated to cost around $26 million.
A groundbreaking ceremony took place Oct. 30, while the proper construction will begin Dec. 1 and is expected to be completed by April 2021. The aquatics center is set to open its doors for the public in June 2021.
