Teachers and students in Victorville and across the country were able to get an inside look into the manufacturing of cement, aggregates and ready-mix concrete, as well as learn directly from CEMEX USA employees about its sustainability efforts and future employment possibilities, as part of Manufacturing Day.

CEMEX USA employees delivered a live webinar that reached more than 1,000 elementary, middle and high school students across eight states on Oct. 1, explaining the processes of manufacturing cement and producing aggregates and ready-mix concrete. More than 10 classes in Victorville and Apple Valley, CA, participated in the event.

“For years, we’ve hosted Manufacturing Day tours of our facilities across our operations. We couldn’t this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, so we transitioned our participation to a virtual event,” said Edgar Angeles, CEMEX USA executive vice-president—Cement Operations and Technical. “Our Victorville Cement Plant and surrounding quarry operations have been part of the Mojave Desert community for more than 110 years, and this was a way we could help our local teachers with educational content while also introducing students to exciting and innovative careers in our industry, as well as to CEMEX’s commitment to embed sustainability into our operations.”

Manufacturing Day, held the first Friday of October each year, is a national initiative to empower industries, academic organizations and public entities to raise awareness about advanced manufacturing careers and prepare the current and next generation workforce for the skills and jobs of the future.
