Construction is set to begin on a seven-story academic building at UC San Diego.
The $70-million La Jolla Innovation Center (LJIC) will be located just across the street from the southwest edge of campus, reports Spaces4Learning.
The LJIC is a partnership between the university and real estate investment and development firm GPI Companies, which will design, finance, build, and maintain the facility. Once complete, the university will lease the space from GPI.
The LJIC will house several programs from UC San Diego Health, UC San Diego School of Medicine, and UC San Diego Extension serving students, patients and the larger community. It will include approximately 110,000 sq. ft. of office and educational space, a ground-floor café accessible to the public and approximately 275 parking spaces.
