LA Council paves the way to turn a Hollywood parking lot into a mixed-use development

Los Angeles City Council has decided to give the go-ahead for a proposed mixed-use project at Hollywood and Highland.

The Bonnie, at 6831 Hawthorn Ave. behind the El Capitan Theatre, will receive a sustainable communities project exemption, exempting the proposal from further evaluation under the California Environmental Quality Act.

The proposed project designed by Nadel Architects includes an eight-story structure with 137 apartments, an underground garage and 1,200 sq. ft. of ground-floor commercial space, and an underground parking garage. The building includes a gym and pool and rooftop decks

Construction Review (CR) reports that other significant projects are underway in the area.

“A block north, Gaw Capital USA and DJM are in the midst of a US$100 million makeover of the Hollywood & Highland Center, which would turn the top floors of the fortress-like facility into rentable offices,” CR says. “A short walk south, along Sunset Boulevard and Highland Avenue, Harridge Development Group recently acquired a US$485 million construction financing for Crossroads Hollywood, a multi-tower complex.”
