Caltrain is on schedule to complete the historic Electrification Project between San Francisco and San Jose by September, the first project of its kind in North America.

Electrification will ensure faster and more frequent service, doubling the frequency on weekends. The passenger experience will be greatly improved as well with the new trains featuring Wi-Fi, power outlets at every seat, onboard displays with digital trip information, increased storage capacities.

“Caltrain electrification is a cornerstone of the transportation infrastructure of the future for our region, said Ahmad Thomas, CEO of Silicon Valley Leadership Group (SVLG). “These new service upgrades will more deeply integrate sustainability into the next era of innovation for Silicon Valley businesses while promoting greater access and equity for the community as a whole.”

“As we mark this important milestone, SVLG is proud to be a longtime leader and advocate for Caltrain.”

Upgrades will also help meet regional and state climate action goals by lowering greenhouse gas emissions, improving air quality and relieving traffic congestion.

Improved service will improve equity along the corridor by reducing noise and air pollution while increasing access for priority equity communities.

It will also set the framework for California’s future High Speed Rail network that will run on the Caltrain corridor.
