The first Palisades property has cleared all hazardous and fire debris, known as Phase 1 and Phase 2 debris removal, and has done so months ahead of expectations, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass announced.

“Our focus is on making sure we rebuild the Palisades as quickly and safely as possible, and today marks a major milestone that’s months ahead of expectations,” she said. “This underscores my commitment to drive this wildfire recovery forward in record time.”

Phase 1 debris removal is conducted by the U.S. EPA and involves highly toxic materials such as electric vehicle batteries. Phase 2 debris removal is a full clearing of a lot to prepare it for rebuilding.

Work to accelerate the rebuilding of the Palisades includes an emergency executive directive on streamlined rebuilding that directs LA departments to expedite all building permit review/inspections, bypass state CEQA discretionary review, allow rebuilding “like for like” and waive discretionary review processes.

Also, a One Stop Rebuilding Center was created so questions or needs can be addressed under one roof. The One-Stop Rebuilding Center is at 1828 Sawtelle Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90025, and is open Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturday & Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
