Construction is underway on Casa Roseland, a new affordable housing development in Santa Rosa’s Roseland neighborhood that will bring 75 rental units to low-income families.
The building was designed by Van Meter Williams Pollack LLP, with Devcon Construction, Inc. serving as general contractor.
Developed by MidPen Housing, Casa Roseland will feature a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments for households earning between 30% and 60% of the area median income.
The project is part of Tierra de Rosas, a broader community revitalization plan aimed at improving economic resilience, expanding housing options, and enhancing quality of life in the historically underserved neighborhood. The overall plan includes additional market-rate housing, a civic-use building, and a 10,000-square-foot mercado.
Amenities planned for Casa Roseland include a community room, teen room, learning center, bike storage, laundry facilities, and 1,600 square feet of outdoor space with a barbecue area and children’s playground. Construction began in January and is expected to be completed by summer 2026. Casa Roseland marks MidPen’s sixth affordable housing development in Sonoma County.
A mix of public and private funding has been approved, including $25.8 million from the state’s Affordable Housing and Sustainable Communities (AHSC) program. The AHSC initiative supports developments that reduce greenhouse gas emissions by linking affordable housing with accessible public transportation.
Other funding partners include the Sonoma County Community Development Commission, US Bank, RED Housing Fund, the California Tax Credit Allocation Committee, the California Debt Limit Allocation Committee, and the California Municipal Finance Authority. The project is part of the state’s California Climate Investments initiative.
