Construction crews have placed the final beam on Sequoia, a 512-bed student housing project at California State University, Fullerton (CSUF), marking a major milestone in the university’s efforts to expand affordable, on-campus living options.
Developed through a design-build partnership between Sundt Construction and HMC Architects, the six-story, 155,000-sq. ft. building is expected to open in fall 2026. Once complete, it will increase CSUF’s total housing capacity to more than 2,600 beds, including 390 units reserved as affordable housing for students.

Located next to the Fullerton Arboretum and Botanical Garden, the development is designed with a wellness-focused “Garden Home” concept. It will feature apartment-style units—primarily two-bedroom, two-bathroom layouts—for upper-division students, along with a resident advisor unit and staff accommodations. Ground-floor amenities will include a market, mailroom, laundry, lounge spaces, and a landscaped courtyard intended as a tranquil gathering place for study and relaxation.
“By creating spaces where students can live, learn and thrive, Sequoia will contribute directly to academic achievement, mental well-being and community connection,” said a representative from Sundt Construction.
