Turner Construction Company joined representatives from Bakar Labs, the University of California-Berkeley, Gensler, and A Squared Solutions to mark the groundbreaking of Bakar Labs for Energy + Materials, a 146,000-square-foot facility designed to advance research in energy and material technologies.

The five-story building, designed by Gensler, will provide flexible laboratory, office, and collaborative spaces to support innovative companies and research initiatives. Features include advanced laboratories, 3D printing studios, meeting and conference rooms, and offices tailored for early-stage companies.

“Turner is honored to partner with everyone on the Bakar Labs for Energy + Materials project,” said Manu Garg, project executive at Turner Construction Company. “This collaboration reflects our shared commitment to excellence and innovation in delivering complex research facilities. We look forward to contributing our expertise to a project that exemplifies the power of collaboration in advancing research and innovation.”

Turner is providing preconstruction and construction management services, including excavation, foundation, structural work, and the installation of specialized mechanical and electrical systems to support advanced research activities.

The project continues a strong partnership between Turner, Gensler, and A Squared Solutions, which have collaborated on multiple technically demanding academic and research facilities. Construction is scheduled to continue through 2028, with the building expected to open shortly thereafter.
