Lynwood Unified School District recently reached a major milestone in its multi-million-dollar reconstruction project at the Lynwood High School Imperial Campus with a Beam Signing and Topping Off Ceremony. The event commemorated the placement of the ceremonial last steel beam on the new three-story classroom building, set to open in Fall 2027.

The $250 million, state-funded project includes a 156,384-square-foot, state-of-the-art learning facility. Students, staff, community members, and District leaders signed the ceremonial beam before it was lifted into place by a crane, symbolizing shared pride, resilience, and investment in the District’s future.

The main construction contractor is Bernards.

Construction to date has included deep soil mixing, underground utility installation, foundation work, and the start of a kiln building for art and ceramics instruction. With the steel framework now complete, work will continue on enclosing the building and developing interior learning spaces.

“It was a great ceremony,” said Zach Darwin, project manager, Bernards. “We lifted essentially the final piece of steel, completing the structure of the building.

“Lynwood District was able to come out and they all had a chance to sign the beam. We hoisted it up, put it on the backside of the building and now we can just finish up the structure and away we go.”

The completed building will include 69 classrooms and specialized learning spaces, including a culinary arts kitchen, advanced medical training labs, dedicated art rooms, and refreshed interiors designed with community input. Plans also include upgraded athletic facilities such as softball, baseball, and soccer fields to support the entire campus.
