Tutor Perini Corporation has reached a major construction milestone on Section 3 of the Los Angeles Metro Purple Line (D Line) extension with the completion of deck removal and roadway restoration work near the University of California, Los Angeles.

The work forms part of the large-scale transit expansion being delivered by Tutor Perini for Los Angeles Metro, advancing the subway extension toward Westwood. The Purple Line project is intended to improve high-capacity transit access along one of the most heavily travelled corridors in Los Angeles.
According to the contractor, the UCLA-area work required complex staging in a dense urban environment adjacent to the University of California, Los Angeles campus and medical centre. Crews coordinated extended weekday work hours and executed full weekend closures, with some shifts running 12 to 16 hours on Saturdays and Sundays, in order to complete the work while minimizing disruption to surrounding traffic and hospital access.

The company also reported that the milestone was achieved with zero injuries to workers, crediting craft employees, suppliers, and engineering, quality, and safety teams for their coordination and adherence to safety protocols.

When complete, the Purple Line extension is expected to provide a direct subway connection to Westwood, significantly improving transit capacity and reliability for commuters in western Los Angeles.
