Granite has been awarded a $51.5-million contract by the Southern California Regional Rail Authority (Metrolink) to build two rail sidings as part of the agency’s Southern California Optimized Rail Expansion (SCORE) program.

Construction is expected to begin in January 2027, with completion scheduled for July 2028.

The SCORE Bundled Marengo and Rancho Cucamonga Siding Extension Projects will add rail capacity at two locations: near downtown Los Angeles and in Rancho Cucamonga.

The improvements are intended to accommodate growing transportation demands across Southern California, including increased mobility requirements associated with the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic and Paralympic Games. They are also part of a longer-term strategy to expand regional rail capacity beyond 2028.

The contract is the first project procured under the SCORE program to be awarded to Granite. The company said the award positions it to pursue additional work as the program progresses.

“Winning the first project procured under the SCORE program supports our regional rail strategy and positions us well to pursue future work as the program advances,” said Granite Regional Vice-President Bill Moore.

“We have had successful rail projects with the Riverside County Transportation Commission, and I look forward to bringing that experience to our new relationship with Metrolink. I’m excited that Granite is so involved in increasing the mobility of the travelling public in LA and the Inland Empire.”
