Construction is underway on a $70-million redevelopment of Harbor Island West Marina in San Diego, a project that will transform one of the region’s most recognizable waterfront destinations into a modern recreational boating hub with expanded public amenities, commercial space and upgraded marina infrastructure.

Located at the western end of Harbor Island, the rebuild encompasses 3.8 acres of land and 22 acres of water. The project is designed to revitalize the aging marina while enhancing public access and creating a destination that reflects San Diego’s renowned waterfront lifestyle.

Construction is being completed in phases over an estimated two-year period, allowing portions of the marina to remain operational throughout the redevelopment process.

The primary contractors on the $70 million Harbor Island West Marina redevelopment are:

  • Bellingham Marine – responsible for the waterside portion of the project, including the new dock system, marina infrastructure and utility upgrades.
  • Pacific Building Group – serving as the general contractor for the landside improvements, including the boater facilities, commercial buildings, public access areas, fitness center, pool and other amenities.

When completed, the redeveloped marina will feature state-of-the-art marine facilities capable of accommodating a wide range of vessels, from entry-level sailboats and powerboats to luxury superyachts. Developers say the project is intended to position Harbor Island West Marina as Southern California’s premier recreational boating destination.

Work will include installation of a new concrete dock system and 623 slips ranging in size from 20 to 140 feet. Additional marine improvements will include a modern fuel dock, upgraded utility systems, enhanced security infrastructure and concierge services designed to elevate the boating experience.

Beyond marina operations, the project introduces a broad range of resort-style amenities aimed at creating a year-round waterfront destination. Plans call for a boater lounge, shower facilities, business center, pool and spa areas, fitness center, crew lockers and high-speed Wi-Fi throughout the property.

Also, 16,000 square feet of contemporary commercial space will include retail storefronts, a market and café, creating new opportunities for visitors and marina users while activating the waterfront environment.

New amenities will include a waterfront promenade, public viewing deck, dedicated public parking areas and electric vehicle charging stations. Project planners say these improvements are intended to strengthen the marina’s connection to the surrounding community while expanding recreational opportunities along San Diego Bay.
