Lake on Wilshire moves forward amid community concerns in MacArthur Park

A mixed-use development that includes a 220-key hotel tower and a 41-story residential building will move forward with construction after the Planning and Land Use Management Committee of Los Angeles approved plans on Jan. 16.

Simultaneously, the committee also rejected two appeals from affordable housing advocates who believe the development known as Lake on Wilshire will displace residents.

“These new projects are pushing our community to the margins,” said Jose Felix Cabrera, a representative of the Coalition for an Equitable Westlake-Macarthur Park.

Both appeals did not only voice out concerns about the project’s height and impact on traffic, but also its unaffordability to local community members.

This complaint was raised despite the fact that the development’s 41-story tower will have at least 39 apartments reserved for very low-income tenants.
