The city of Modesto is kicking off Modesto 2050: Our City. Our Future, the first major update to its General Plan since 1995. This effort aims to shape the city’s growth, land use, and community services.

To gather feedback from residents and stakeholders, the city will host a series of workshops. These sessions will help residents share their ideas on future development, which is also important for those in the construction industry looking to understand new opportunities.

“We want to hear from the community about what they envision for Modesto’s future,” a city spokesperson said. “This is a great chance for residents to influence development plans.”

Workshops will take place in all six council districts, plus a citywide session, making them accessible to everyone. Spanish interpretation will be available. Here are the details:

  • District 3: Oct. 9, 2024, 5:30-7 PM, Boy Scout Club House, 400 Enslen Ave.
  • District 2: Oct. 10, 2024, 5:30-7 PM, West Modesto Community Collaborative, 601 S Martin Luther King Dr.
  • Citywide: Oct. 23, 2024, 5:30-7 PM, City Hall, 1010 10th St., Council Chambers.
  • District 1: Oct. 24, 2024, 5:30-7 PM, Prescott Jr. High School, 2243 W. Rumble Rd.
  • District 5: Oct. 28, 2024, 5:30-7 PM, Grace M. Davis High School, 1200 W. Rumble Rd.
  • District 6: Oct. 29, 2024, 5:30-7 PM, Freedom Elementary School, 2101 Fine Ave.
  • District 4: Oct. 30, 2024, 5:30-7 PM, Peter Johansen High School, 641 Norseman Dr.

The first round of community input in 2022 led to a Community Vision Statement, highlighting the goals and aspirations of Modesto residents. This feedback will guide the ongoing update, providing valuable insights for industry professionals looking to align their projects with community needs.

These workshops offer a key opportunity for construction industry stakeholders to learn about potential projects, zoning changes, and funding as Modesto plans for the future.
